The International Union for Circumpolar Health (IUCH) announces the 15th
International Congress on Circumpolar Health (ICCH15) to be held 5-10
August 2012 in Fairbanks, Alaska. Organizers call for abstracts of oral
and poster presentations to be submitted by 6:00 p.m. AKST on 31 January
2012.

IUCH is an international non-governmental organization whose objectives
are to promote international cooperation in circumpolar health;
encourage and support research and exchange of scientific information in
the circumpolar health sciences; promote public awareness of circumpolar
health; provide a means of communication with other scientific
organizations; and promote and encourage the participation of indigenous
peoples in circumpolar health affairs.

The preliminary scientific themes for ICCH15 include:

- The North: Unique Land and Social Environment
- History of Circumpolar Health
- Research in the Circumpolar North
- Social Determinants of Health
- Healthy Families
- Nutrition and Food Security
- Behavioral Health
- Environmental and Occupational Safety and Health
- Injury Epidemiology and Prevention in the North
- Chronic Diseases
- Infectious Diseases

Abstract submission deadline: 6:00 p.m. AKST on 31 January 2012.

    42nd Annual International Arctic Workshop

The 42nd Annual International Arctic Workshop will be held 7-9 March
2012 at the Winter Park Hotel in Winter Park, Colorado. Registration and
abstract submission are now available online at:

The meeting is open to all interested in the Arctic, and will consist of
a series of talks and poster sessions covering all aspects of
high-latitude environments, past and present. Previous Arctic Workshops
have included presentations on arctic and Antarctic climate,
archaeology, environmental geochemistry, geomorphology, hydrology,
glaciology, soils, ecology, oceanography, Quaternary history, and more.

The Arctic Workshop strives for a relatively small, friendly, and
informal gathering and has no formalized topics. The program is
organized around themes developed from the abstracts submitted for
presentation as well as special themes promoted by attendees. Student
participation is strongly encouraged with partial support available to a
limited number of those making presentations.

Organizers announce that the 32nd European Association of Remote Sensing
Laboratories (EARSeL) Symposium 2012 and the associated 4th Workshop on
Geological Applications will be held on Mykonos Island, Greece. The
EARSeL Symposium entitled "Advances in Geosciences" will be convened
21-24 May 2012 and the Geological Applications Workshop will be held
24-25 May 2012.

Contributions to the symposium are invited on the following topics:

- Scientific applications of remote sensing, emerging methods, and
technologies;
- Education and training in school, university, and public life;
- Capacity building at organizations and authorities involved in
environmental monitoring and protection;
- Activities dealing with natural and cultural heritage;
- Remote sensing for archaeology;
- Land use and land cover, degradation, and desertification;
- Urban remote sensing;
- Oceans, coastal zones, and inland waters;
- Natural and man-made disasters;
- Forestry and forest fires;
- Applications related to assist developing countries in mapping,
monitoring, and change analysis;
- Remote sensing and its associated support to the understanding of
climate change;
- Hydrological applications for water management, underground water
sources, land ice, and snow;
- 3D remote sensing, radar, lidar, thermal remote sensing; and
- New instruments and methods, including ground truths.

The main subject of the workshop will be the use of remote sensing in
geology. Paper contributions are expected to focus on remote sensing and
geographic information systems application on:

- Geological mapping;
- Tectonic geology;
- Mine monitoring;
- Hydrogeology;
- Geomorphology; and
- Geohazards including landslides, floods, and earthquakes.

    5th Western Alaska Interdisciplinary Science Conference
    28-30 March 2012
    Dillingham, Alaska

Organizers announce a call for abstracts for the 5th Western Alaska
Interdisciplinary Science Conference (WAISC) entitled "Resilience in a
Changing World." The conference is hosted by the University of Alaska
Fairbanks Bristol Bay Campus in conjunction with the Southwest
Interagency-Fish Meeting and will be convened 28-30 March 2012 in
Dillingham, Alaska.

WAISC invites abstracts for oral and poster presentations from students,
scientists, resource managers, technicians, and representatives from
industry and non-governmental organizations that promote science,
innovation, and education in western Alaska.

Abstracts should be submitted as either a Word or PDF attachment via
