Organizers of the Arctic Science Summit Week (ASSW) 2012 announce that
the meeting website is now available, at: http://www.assw2012.org. The
meeting will be held 19-22 April 2012 in Montreal, Canada, in
conjunction with the IPY 2012 From Knowledge to Action conference.

The ASSW is an annual gathering of international organizations engaged
in supporting and facilitating arctic research. The purpose is to
provide opportunities for international coordination, collaboration, and
cooperation in all fields of arctic science and to combine science and
management meetings.

A draft schedule is posted on the website. Registration for the
conference will be available in January 2012.

    IPY: A Focus on Knowledge to Action

Organizers announce a discussion on the legacies of the International
Polar Year (IPY) and the upcoming 2012 From Knowledge to Action
conference. The symposium will be held Tuesday, 29 November 2011 from
4:00-6:00 p.m. EST in Room 100 of the National Academy of Sciences Keck
Center.

Organized by the Polar Research Board and the Canadian Embassy, the
short program will include speakers from the embassy and the U.S. State
Department, an Inuit representative, and short films with PolarPalooza
scientists. There will be a reception at the Koshland Science Museum
following the symposium.

The 2011 Nye Lecture at the American Geophysical Union (AGU) Fall
Meeting will take place Tuesday, 6 December 2011 at 5:00-6:00 p.m. PST
in Moscone Room 104.

Tad Pfeffer, of the University of Colorado, will present this year's Nye
Lecture. The lecture is entitled 'We Are All Engineers Now: Delivering
Useful Projections Of Sea Level.' The Cryosphere Young Investigator
award will be presented to Valentina Radic, of the University of British
Columbia, immediately prior to the Nye Lecture.
