The Association of Polar Early Career Scientists (APECS) announces the
fall 2011 Career Development Webinar Series. The series of four webinars
begins next Tuesday, 18 October 2011 at 5:00 p.m. GMT (9:00 a.m. AKDT,
10:00 a.m. PDT, 11:00 a.m. MDT, 12:00 p.m. CDT, 1:00 p.m. EDT, 7:00 p.m.

The first webinar (on Tuesday, 18 October 2011) is entitled "Translating
Scientific Insights Into Policy" and will be presented by Dr. Chanda
Meek, Department of Political Science, University of Alaska Fairbank and
Dr. Pia Kohler, Center for Environmental Studies, Williams College. Many
researchers wonder how they can make a difference with their work. In
this webinar, Dr. Meek and Dr. Kohler discuss models from political
science explaining how science has informed policy and give examples of
successful and not-so-successful translations.

Due to the HUGE response and popularity of these webinars, the
University of Canterbury has increased the number of spots available to
100, but space is still expected to fill up. To reserve a spot in the

Adobe Connect Pro software will be used to conduct the Career
Development webinars. The software requires that Abode Flash Player be
installed on participants' computers. If your computer does not already
have Adobe Flash, please install it at:
