  1. Workshop Announcement
NASA Carbon Cycle and Ecosystems Joint Science Workshop
    3-7 October 2011
    Alexandria, Virginia

Organizers announce the National Aeronautics and Space Administration
(NASA) Carbon Cycle and Ecosystems Joint Science Workshop, scheduled for
3-7 October 2011 in Alexandria, Virginia.

The workshop objectives are to share scientific research results and
foster interdisciplinary interactions within the Carbon Cycle and
Ecosystems focus area, and to serve as the next regular science team
meeting for each of the following programs: Biodiversity and Ecological
Forecasting, Land Cover and Land Use Change, Ocean Biology and
Biogeochemistry, and Terrestrial Ecology.

During the course of the workshop, several side meetings will be held.
Details for the side meetings will be updated as available, at:
http://cce.nasa.gov/meeting_2011/side_mtgs.htm. The side meetings
include:

- Global Fire Emissions Database Project (participants only)
- Overview and Q&A on the Coastal Ecosystem Dynamics component of
the Geostationary Coastal Air Pollution Events (GEO-CAPE) Mission
(contact organizer)
- PolInSAR Methods for Ecosystems Science (contact organizer)

The venue for the event is the Hilton Alexandria Mark Center. Special
hotel rates for the workshop are available through Friday, 9 September
2011.

  1. Call for Papers
15th International Congress on Circumpolar Health
    5-10 August 2012
    Fairbanks, Alaska

Organizers of the 15th International Congress on Circumpolar Health
(ICCH) announce a call for papers. The conference will be held 5-10
August 2012 in Fairbanks, Alaska.

Hosted every three years by the International Union for Circumpolar
Health, the meeting focuses on the health and wellness of northern
peoples. The scientific program is expected to bring 600-800 health care
leaders, decision makers, and researchers from all over the world to
Fairbanks. Hundreds of papers and posters will be presented in a variety
of topic areas. Keynote speakers, poster sessions, and networking events
will round out the program.

The abstract submission deadline (maximum 300 words) for paper
presentations and posters is 31 January 2012. All submissions will be
processed via the Congress web site where prospective presenters will be
able to upload their abstracts. Abstracts from students will be
considered for both presentation in the main conference as well as for
presentation in student-focused conference activities. Notices of
acceptance will be issued by 29 February 2012. Congress proceedings will
be published.

  1. Session Announcement and Call for Abstracts
Arctic Ocean Boundary Currents: Observations, Theory and Modeling
Session 008, 2012 Ocean Science Meeting
    20-24 February 2012
    Salt Lake City, Utah

Organizers of session 008, "Arctic Ocean Boundary Currents:
Observations, Theory and Modeling," announce a call for abstracts. This
session is organized within the Physical Oceanography and Limnology
category at the 2012 Ocean Sciences Meeting, which will be convened
20-24 February 2012 in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Arctic Ocean boundary currents are central to the heat, freshwater, and
geochemical budgets of the arctic system and can rapidly propagate and
modify high-latitude climate signals. Their scales range from the Arctic
Circumpolar Boundary Current, extending thousands of kilometers around
the perimeter of the basin, to regional shelfbreak jets, such as those
adjacent to the Chukchi, Beaufort, and Barents Seas.

This session explores all aspects of arctic basin boundary flows,
including, but not limited to: seasonal and longer-term water-mass
changes; governing dynamics; exchange processes linking the continental
shelf and slope to the deep central basins, such as eddies, dense water
flows, and wind-forced circulation; and exchanges between arctic
boundary currents and the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans and coastal arctic
seas. Organizers invite contributions that bring new insights into the
system of boundary currents of the Arctic Ocean through observational,
theoretical, and modeling studies.

The abstract submission deadline is 11:59 p.m. Central Daylight Time
Friday, 7 October 2011 (4:59 a.m. Greenwich Mean Time Saturday, 8
October 2011). For complete instructions regarding online registration
and abstract submission, please go to:
