Researchers at the Leibniz Institute of Marine Science (IFM-GEOMAR) in
Germany seek help acquiring surface and subsurface seawater samples from
arctic or sub-arctic waters.

The samples will be used to add arctic data to an assessment of seawater
geochemistry gradients (primarily Mg/Ca and Sr/Ca) from coastal to
offshore regions. The data will later be used to calibrate relationships
to trace elements in pelagic calcites.

Anyone who is participating in a research cruise in an applicable region
between now and the end of 2012, and would be willing to collect
samples, should contact Mario Lebrato (mlebrato13 [at] googlemail.com).
Specifics such as transect, locations, and depths will be decided. IFM-
GEOMAR will then send all necessary equipment (50 ml syringes, 0.22 um
filters, 15 ml falcon tubes) and simple protocol procedures for
collection. After the cruise has been completed, the samples will be
returned. IFM-GEOMAR will incur all financial responsibility.

Volunteers who supply samples will be included as coauthors in all
publications resulting from this project.
