The University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) seeks to fill the position of
Vice Provost for Research and Graduate Studies.

The Vice Provost for Research and Graduate Studies (VPRGS) serves as the
chief research officer and the principal advisor to the provost on
research and graduate studies. The VPRGS provides oversight for UAA's
broad research enterprise and the instructional environment for over 850
graduate students in 30 programs at the Master's level and several
joint/cooperative PhD programs delivered in collaboration with other
universities. The VPRGS oversees a university-wide array of faculty and
staff research programs and promotes graduate education and research by
enhancing funding support from internal and external agencies. The
position is responsible for an array of multi-disciplinary research
centers and institutes, research policy, and compliance including
conflict of interest, human subjects, animal welfare, and responsible
conduct of research. The VPRGS provides the leadership to reinforce and
rapidly expand the research mission within UAA's Strategic Plan. This
position oversees the Office of the Graduate School, Office of Sponsored
Programs, Office of Grants and Contracts, and the Office of Research
Compliance.

Candidates will be evaluated on the following professional and personal
characteristics:

- Commitment to maintain and extend the scholarly values, academic
breadth, and diverse mission of an emerging major public research
university;
- Outstanding leadership qualities including a record of successful
leadership in higher education;
- Experience with grants and contracts;
- Demonstrated success with federal granting agencies;
- A significant record of past research or scholarly accomplishments
including a distinguished record of past accomplishments such as
publications, workshop organization, service on eminent journal
editorial boards, and national grant review panels; and
- Experience managing personnel and budgets.

Additional preferred attributes include a demonstrated record of
commitment to diversity, and experience with a multi-campus distributed
or system environment. The candidate should qualify for a senior faculty
position within his or her discipline if tenure is to be awarded.
Educational requirements for this position include an earned doctorate
and faculty experience in higher education.
