National Park Service seeks Undergraduate or Graduate Student
Geographic Information Systems Specialist

The National Park Service seeks a detail-oriented student to assist in
developing and managing large Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
datasets for natural and cultural resources projects conducted in 8 of
Alaska's national park units. The position will be based in Fairbanks,
Alaska.

This is an advanced trainee position, working with data from Bering Land
Bridge, Cape Krusenstern, Denali, Gates of the Arctic, Kobuk Valley,
Noatak, Wrangell-St. Elias, and Yukon-Charley Rivers. The position will
run for six months. A wide array of projects includes:

- Creating volumetric maps of lakes and permafrost thaw features;
- Automating caribou and muskoxen GPS collar data retrieval,
processing, and archiving;
- Testing and developing custom ArcGIS extensions and ArcPad applets
used in Dall sheep surveys;
- Streamlining GPS protocols for pilots and observers conducting
aerial wildlife surveys;
- Taking point estimates from spatial statistical models and using
geographic 'smoothing' functions to produce contour or color-ramped
density maps of plant species diversity and probability of
occurrence of individual species;
- Designing a workflow process in ArcGIS to automate the creation of
many hundreds of species occurrence maps using a large geodatabase;
and
- Creating publication-quality graphics showing landscape-scale
phenomena.

Experience with or interest in developing skills in geodatabase
management, kernels, TINs, GPS telemetry data, Spatial Analyst, 3D
Analyst, and/or ArcGIS programming is required. The position is open to
undergraduate or graduate students with U.S. citizenship.

The Alaska Center for Ocean Sciences Education Excellence (COSEE Alaska)
is seeking a fulltime, professional Executive Director to lead a dynamic
partnership between research, formal education, and informal education
organizations. The position will be based in Anchorage, Alaska.

The successful applicant will be responsible for carrying out the
direction of the COSEE Alaska Senior Management Team to create a dynamic
program and ensure implementation of all the components of the COSEE
Alaska program.

Candidates must have a Master's degree or equivalent experience and a
record of accomplishment in implementing marine or environmental
education programs and/or in science communication. COSEE Alaska seeks a
motivated leader and facilitator with excellent written/verbal
communication skills and strong interpersonal/organizational skills.
This individual will have the ability to motivate, influence, and
develop capacity in others to create conditions that elicit passion,
commitment and best-in-class work to build the reputation of an

Scottish Association for Marine Science seeks Senior Systems Engineer

The Scottish Association for Marine Science (SAMS) invites applications
for a Senior Systems Engineer. The position will be based in Dunbeg,
Argyll, Scotland.

The successful applicant will take a leading role both in the
development of new tools and technologies in support of the SAMS science
programs, and in the pursuit of funding for SAMS science and technology.
The work is commonly in the field of electronic and hardware and
software development. In addition, the post has an academic element
requiring the holder to engage in scholarly activities such as research,
teaching, and proposal writing.
