An informational meeting on the National Science Foundation (NSF)
project "DIG (Digitally Integrated Guide): Scientists in Alaska's
Scenery" will be held in conjunction with the AGU Fall Meeting 2010 in
San Francisco, California. The meeting will take place Tuesday, 14
December from 12:30 - 2:00 p.m. in the Arctic Community Meeting Room at
the San Francisco Marriott Marquis (5th floor, Sierra Room K).
Pizza will be provided.

"DIG: Scientists in Alaska's Scenery" is designed to facilitate media
collaboration under scientists' editorial control. The DIG project will
use standard media (e.g., broadcast TV, publications), social media
(e.g., Internet, Facebook, Twitter), and mobile devices to provide
place-based informational resources to the general public.

The informational meeting will discuss how video can be used to
communicate your research to a wider audience. Delivery and evaluation
will emphasize tourists who visit, or are planning to visit, the
National Parks of Alaska. Learn how professional media, social media,
and mobile distribution will maximize engagement by the general public.
Examples of vodcasts, or video podcasts, already on the web and
broadcast on Alaska TV will be shown.

DIG will integrate a tourist's visit with place-based stories of
meaningful science research in the Arctic. DIG will widen the general
public's interaction with the cultural and natural environment by
allowing them to access websites and load their handheld mobile devices
with engaging descriptions of research. The creation of user-friendly
access to technology and to scientist's stories will provide a new
information tool for the tourist. Access can occur before, during, or
after their visit--even if the visit takes them far from computers,
electricity and the Internet.
