    Aberdeen, United Kingdom

Registration for the United Kingdom Polar Network (UKPN) Communication
Workshop is due by Friday, 5 November 2010. The workshop will be held at
the University of Aberdeen, United Kingdom, 12-14 January 2011.

In a rapidly changing world, the ability of scientists to communicate
their work to the public is becoming ever more important, and training
in this key skill ever more valuable. This workshop provides an
opportunity for early career polar scientists to develop their
proficiency within this area.

All early career polar scientists from across the UK and around the
world are invited to register for the event. To register for the
workshop, please complete the form available at:
http://www.polarnetwork.org/machform/view.php?id=20. Limited funding is
available to support travel and accommodation costs for participants. If
you wish to apply for funding, please submit an approximate breakdown of
expected costs in the appropriate box on the registration form.
Successful funding applicants will be notified shortly after the
deadline.

Application and registration deadline: Friday, 5 November 2010.

  1. Abstract Submission and Registration
    2011 Alaska Marine Science Symposium
    17-21 January 2011
    Anchorage, Alaska

The 2011 Alaska Marine Science Symposium will be held 17-21 January 2011
in Anchorage, Alaska. The primary venue for the Symposium will be the
Hotel Captain Cook; all poster sessions will take place in the Egan
Center.

Scientists from Alaska, the Pacific Northwest, the nation, and beyond
will gather in Anchorage to present their research in the marine
ecosystems of the Arctic, the Bering Sea, and the Gulf of Alaska.
Plenary and poster sessions will feature the latest research on climate,
oceanography, lower trophic levels, the benthos, fishes and
invertebrates, seabirds, marine mammals, local and traditional
knowledge, and socioeconomic research.

The deadline for abstracts is Monday, 8 November 2010. All abstracts
must be submitted online, at:
http://www.alaskamarinescience.org/abstracts.html. Due to the high
demand for speaker slots, not every speaker request can be accommodated.
If your abstract is not selected for a talk, you will be offered the

email of the status of your abstract submission by 10 December 2010.
