  1. Seminar and Workshop
    Communicating Ocean Sciences
    26-27 October 2010
    Fairbanks, Alaska

The Alaska and California Centers for Ocean Sciences Education
Excellence (COSEE) are sponsoring two opportunities to learn about
becoming an instructor or partner involved in Communicating Ocean
Sciences courses developed at the Lawrence Hall of Science, University
of California Berkeley.

  1. A brown bag seminar will be held at noon on Wednesday, 27 October
2010 to introduce faculty members and other educators to Communicating
Ocean Science college courses and a professional development program for
educators in informal marine education settings. Course options include
a partnership with a K-12 school or with a museum, aquarium, or other
    informal education institution.

  2. A two-day Communicating Ocean Sciences instructor workshop on
Tuesday-Wednesday, 26-27 October 2010 will prepare science faculty
members and education partners with the resources to establish and
    instruct the courses in Alaska.

Both activities will take place in Room 401 of the International Arctic
Research Center (IARC) at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. Please
contact Marilyn Sigman (msigman [at] alaska.edu) if you would like to
participate. Participation in the seminar by videoconference will be
available at some locations by arrangement.
