The National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC) seeks a Coordinator for
Exchange for Local Observations and Knowledge of the Arctic (ELOKA). The
position will be based in Boulder, Colorado.

The successful candidate will be a part of a new project to help
organize, preserve, and share local observations and knowledge about the
Arctic. NSIDC is working with arctic communities, researchers, and local
and indigenous organizations, offering them advice and methods for
managing and disseminating their data, building databases and websites,
and helping them reach interested audiences. A Coordinator is needed to
be the community contact at NSIDC, helping each of them complete a
successful and satisfying project.

The position will consult with each community individually to understand
the knowledge they have documented, their goals, and what services and
resources can be offered. There will be support from arctic-based ELOKA
researchers who have contact with many of these communities and who are
helping to define the project, as well as other Boulder-based team
members and data center staff. This is an excellent opportunity for
someone who enjoys learning about people and making connections with
them over long distances. The position offers tremendous potential to
help shape the ELOKA project, to help arctic communities and research
projects manage their information, and to build bridges between science
and local, on-the-ground knowledge.

Applicants should enjoy the challenges of solving the logistical,
technical, and conceptual problems of managing knowledge and data in
this new and developing field, and will need to have strong
relationship-building skills and cross-cultural sensitivity. Experience
working closely with native and indigenous communities is highly
desirable. A background in science and experience with research data are
also needed.
