  1. Centre for the North seeks Project Coordinator/Research Assistant
    Ottawa, Canada

The Centre of the North seeks applicants for a Project Coordinator/
Research Assistant. This position is a 6-month contract to start
(potentially renewable for up to four years), available immediately, and
located in Ottawa, Canada.

The successful candidate will act as a prime liaison with project
partners and support the numerous ongoing research initiatives.
Reporting to the Director, the Project Coordinator/Research Assistant
will work closely with members of the project team, as well as with
external partners and stakeholders.

Principal duties include:

- Acting as the primary contact/coordinator for the Centre's
outreach program;
- Providing research support to the Director and other research
staff as required;
- Creating and maintaining a master database of contacts/partners;
- Contributing and providing project support to the Centre in
various capacities as required;
- Communicating effectively with the project team, project partners,
and other internal and external stakeholders; and
- Delivering high quality work and customer service.

The ideal applicant is a bright, energetic individual who will represent
the Centre for the North and the Conference Board in a professional
manner. A significant portion of this role involves liaising with key
external stakeholders and their contacts. This will require travel to
Northern/remote regions of Canada. To be successful in this role you
must have solid organization, research, and customer relationship
building skills. A strong customer service orientation, mature judgment,
positive attitude, and strong work ethic are essential.

Required skills and qualifications include:

- Association with First Nations, Inuit, and Metis issues, and
experience working in Northern and Aboriginal communities;
- A minimum of a BA or BSc (preferably in social sciences or
Northern issues) or 2-3 years of experience providing research
support in a professional or academic research environment;
- Knowledge of, and some exposure to, quantitative and qualitative
research methodologies;
- Advanced communication and interpersonal skills;
- Cultural sensitivity;
- The ability to write clearly, concisely, and quickly; and
- Demonstrated ability to multi-task, perform high-quality work,
meet tight deadlines, and keep yourself and others organized.

  1. UNAVCO seeks Polar Network Operations Engineer
    Boulder, Colorado

UNAVCO seeks a Polar Network Operations Engineer. The position will be
based in Boulder, Colorado.

This position holds the primary UNAVCO responsibility for building and
maintaining polar GPS stations and networks (collectively ~100 remote
sites). The successful candidate will plan system configurations with
UNAVCO staff and project scientists, oversee procurement and assembly of
system kits, conduct system tests, coordinate shipping and field
logistics, lead field installation efforts, maintain operations and
maintenance inventory pool, and participate in and direct field
maintenance activities. Up to four months of travel per year is
required, primarily in Antarctica and Greenland.

Key requirements for the position are as follows:

- Bachelor or Masters degree in engineering, geophysics, geodesy, or
similar field.
- A minimum of five years experience in telecommunications,
engineering, survey or geodetic operations. Polar work experience
preferred.
- Proficiency in standard personal computer hardware and software,
ability to master project specific hardware and software.
- Proven ability and attention to detail to plan and coordinate GPS
scientific research programs and projects.
- Knowledge of GNSS instrumentation related to the UNAVCO mission.
- Effective oral and written communication skills in English.
- Project management skills in scope definition, budgeting,
scheduling, and procurement.
- Proficiency in using hand and power tools and standard test and
repair equipment.
- Valid driver's license and current passport.

Also necessary is the ability and willingness to work under difficult
physical conditions in order to: travel for extended periods of time,
including up to four months per year in Antarctica and other domestic
and international locations; lift and carry up to 50 lbs over one mile
in rough terrain; pass the Antarctic Program medical screening; fly for
periods up to 13 hours in confined aircraft; and provide field support
at primitive and remote field camps.

  1. University of Alaska Fairbanks seeks MS or PhD Applications
    Fairbanks, Alaska

The College of Natural Science and Mathematics at the University of
Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) is accepting applications for a graduate student
scholarship in the Atmospheric Sciences.

The successful candidate will pursue research with Weather Research and
Forecast (WRF)/Chemistry on emission impacts on air quality in the
Fairbanks PM_2.5 nonattainment area. The student will have access to the
Arctic Region Supercomputing Center, and data from observational
networks. As many of the research activities are carried out in close
cooperation with scientists all over the world, the graduate student
will gain international experience.

Candidates should be highly qualified MSc or PhD applicants, with
strong backgrounds in mathematics, physics, and atmospheric science or
