  1. Prince William Sound Science Center seeks Postdoc
    Cordova, Alaska

The Prince William Sound Science Center seeks to fill a postdoctoral
research position in pelagic fish ecology or fisheries acoustics. The
position will be based in Cordova, Alaska.

The successful candidate will join a multi-disciplinary and
multi-institutional team working on the ecosystem dynamics of Prince
William Sound. The position is in support of a large survey effort
focused on herring populations in Prince William Sound, and will involve
considerable fieldwork within the sound, including the collection of
fish and plankton samples, hydrographic data, and logistics support.

Applicants are required to have fisheries research experience and a
doctorate degree. Fisheries acoustics experience is desirable but not
essential. Also desirable is knowledge of Pacific herring or other
forage fish. The successful applicant will be expected to work
independently, and also in collaboration with other researchers, be able
to publish the research findings in peer-reviewed scientific journals as
well as to write proposals, reports, and other publications. The ideal
applicant will be organized, self motivated, independent, pro-active,
have a proven ability to produce tangible results from significant or
difficult tasks, have excellent communication skills, be able to work as
part of a research team, and complement the research interests of
existing personnel.

Travel may be required. This position is funded for three years. The
starting date of the position is spring or early summer of 2010.

  1. Climate Action Network Canada seeks Arctic Climate Intern
    Ottawa, Ontario, Canada

Climate Action Network - Reseau action climat (CAN-Rac) Canada seeks an
enthusiastic individual to assist with efforts to raise awareness about
the impacts of climate change in Canada's North and the steps that need
to be taken to avoid dangerous climate change and address ongoing
impacts. This full-time, six month internship will start no later than
the end of April and be based out of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.

Climate Action Network Canada along with the Arctic Athabaskan Council,
Ecology North, Gwich'in Council International, and the Pembina Institute
have been collaborating on northern climate change policy and the
ongoing international climate change negotiations. The successful
applicant will be supporting the overall efforts of this group. Specific
projects that the intern will assist with include: supporting Young
Leaders' efforts to engage their communities and decision makers on the
topic of climate change, helping to create awareness of climate change
impacts in the north, and helping to promote action to address climate
impacts in the North and reduce greenhouse gas pollution. Preference
will be given to applicants who have previously engaged in climate
change work, such as the Northern Young Leaders Summit (2009), with the
above organizations.

The internship provides a hands-on opportunity to work with some of
Canada's leading organizations that are working on climate change - one
of the greatest challenges of our time. Climate Action Network Canada,
the host organization, is a coalition of more than 50 organizations from
across the country working together to prevent catastrophic climate
change and promote sustainable and equitable solutions.

Required Qualifications:
- Working towards university or college degrees/diplomas or be
recent graduates;
- An interest in climate change;
- Effective verbal and written communication skills;
- Excellent interpersonal and public relations skills;
- Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships;
- Ability to prepare and maintain records, reports, and
correspondence;
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel,
PowerPoint, and Outlook; and
- Strong organization and time management skills.

Job Duties:
- Research and report writing;
- Outreach to northern leaders and communities;
- Promoting the work of the northern indigenous groups and
environmental groups that make-up the coalition; and
- Administrative support for the coalition's various projects.

Assets:
- Fluency in multiple languages;
- Experience working with indigenous leaders and/or youth; and
- Knowledge of Canadian or international climate policy.
