  1. University of Alaska Fairbanks seeks PhD Candidates

The University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) seeks motivated PhD candidates
for their Marine Ecosystem Sustainability in the Arctic and Subarctic
(MESAS) program (http://www.uaf.edu/mesas). The position is based in
Fairbanks, Alaska.

This interdisciplinary National Science Foundation (NSF) -funded
Integrative Graduate Education and Research Traineeship (IGERT,
http://www.igert.org) program incorporates social and natural sciences
to explore new approaches to studying and managing marine ecosystems.
In addition to interdisciplinary marine ecosystem coursework, the MESAS
program provides opportunities for an internship with a partner
organization, mentoring of undergraduate students, and interaction with
the terrestrial sustainability IGERT at UAF.

Applicants for the fellowship must be US citizens or permanent residents
and must be seeking a PhD degree. Other UAF degree students may
participate in the program without MESAS fellowship support. Detailed

  1. National Hydrology Research Centre of Environment Canada seeks

The National Hydrology Research Centre of Environment Canada
(www.ec.gc.ca/inre-nwri) seeks applications for a full-time research
scientist in hydrology. The position is based in Saskatoon,
Saskatchewan.

The successful applicant will develop a fundamental and applied research
program on the hydrology of Canada and lead the investigation of the
influence of scale on hydrological processes using field observations,
hydrological modeling, and remote sensing. The incumbent will also
develop improved algorithms and parameterizations for use in
hydrological models and apply hydrological models for considering both
past and future states of the water cycle.

Applicants must have an acceptable doctoral degree (PhD) from a
recognized university in geography, engineering, earth sciences, or
related disciplines, with a specialization in hydrology, or be in the
final stages of thesis defense.

  1. Florida International University seeks Postdoctoral Candidate

The Department of Biological Sciences at Florida International
University seeks a postdoctoral research associate. The position is
based in Miami, Florida, with summer fieldwork at Toolik Field Station,
Alaska and additional sites at Barrow and Atqasuk, Alaska.

The successful candidate will work on a study on the effects of climate
change on arctic tundra phenology, structure, and composition and how
detection of tundra changes can be automated. The project focus is on
ongoing long-term measurements of tundra in response to experimental
warming and background climate as part of the International Tundra
Experiment (ITEX) Arctic Observatory Network. The goal of the project
is to relate manual measurements of plant phenology, growth, and canopy
structure to small-scale remote sensing and to automate and scale up
those measurements using robotic sensor systems.

Applicants should have experience in the use of electronic
instrumentation and sensors, and familiarity with remote sensing
systems. The position is available for up to 3 years with annual renewal
dependent on satisfactory performance. The position includes full
benefits.

  1. Government of Nunavut seeks Manager of Heritage
    Igloolik, Nunavut

The Government of Nunavut, Department of Culture, Language, Elders, and
Youth, seeks applications for a Manager of Heritage. The position is
based in Igloolik, Nunavut.

Under the general direction of the Director of Culture and Heritage, the
successful candidate would be responsible for the day-to-day operation
of the Igloolik office of the Division, consisting of four positions
that deliver the territorial heritage, archaeology, archives, and
toponymy programs, and the Historic Places Registrar and the Heritage
Collections Administration Officer positions based in Iqaluit. The
Manager of Heritage is accountable for developing and delivering
appropriate heritage programs and services, and fulfils these
responsibilities in accordance with federal and territorial heritage
legislation and policy and the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement.

The ideal candidate would have specialist knowledge in one or more of
the Division's key program areas, normally associated with a degree in
anthropology, archaeology, history, or a related social science. The
incumbent should have a firm understanding of the social, cultural, and
political climate in Nunavut, proven management and supervisory
experience in the heritage field, and strong written and oral
communications skills. Knowledge of government and legislative processes
are essential, as is the ability to effectively organize teamwork and
motivate staff. The ability to communicate in the Inuit Language would
be an asset.

Equivalencies that consist of a combination of education, knowledge,
skills, and abilities equal in worth to the formal education and
experience requirements will be considered.
