The Geological Survey of Canada seeks a research scientist specializing
in organic geochemistry for the position of Petroleum Geochemist. The
position is fulltime and based in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

The successful application will contribute key scientific research
regarding the organic geochemistry and petroleum geology of Canadian
petroleum systems and sedimentary basins. The position is part of a
scientific and technical team working in organic geochemical and organic
petrographical laboratories situated at the Geological Survey of
Canada-Calgary. Key research topics will address arctic and frontier
petroleum systems and petroleum geology as part of the Geomapping for
Energy and Minerals initiative.

Candidates must have a PhD in a relevant field, or a Master's or
Bachelor's degree with demonstrated research, training, and experience.
Experience as an independent research scientist in sedimentary basin
studies is an essential qualification, as is demonstrated experience and
knowledge of innovation, productivity, recognition, and impact. Research
experience in petroleum systems and their environmental impacts is
considered an asset. Candidates must be willing to travel and work in
remote field locations for up to three months per year.

  1. University of Tromso seeks Post-Doctoral Research Fellow

The University of Tromso seeks a post-doctoral research fellow in
archaeology. This position is for a fixed term of two years, and based
in Tromso, Norway. The position is linked to the research project
Landscape Knowledge and Resource Management in Interior Arctic Norway,
2500 BC - AD 1000 (LARM).

LARM encompasses two assumed major changes in past resource management:

- The establishment of large pit-fall systems for hunting wild
reindeer from around 2500 BC; and
- The transition to hunting-based reindeer herding, possibly as
early as AD 800/1000.

The principal objective is to investigate how hunting/herding landscape
knowledge and resource management is related to multiple dimensions of
maintained and changing identities, particularly ethnicity, gender, and
territory. The project is organized into three integrated modules:

- From Hunting to Herding of reindeer? From Stone Age to Iron Age in
Interior Northern Fennoscandia;
- History, Ethnography, and Traditional Culture; and
- Sami Place-Names and Landscape Understanding.

The fellowship will be part of the "From Hunting to Herding of
reindeer?" module, with a particular focus on filling the first
millennium AD on variations and developments in the management of
reindeer.

A Norwegian doctoral degree in the field of archaeology, or a foreign
doctoral degree in archaeology equivalent to a Norwegian doctorate is a
prerequisite for appointment to the position. The applicant must provide
officially certified documentation of their scholarly competence, and
include translations in English or a Scandinavian language.
