    Abstract Submission Deadline

All abstract submissions for the American Geophysical Union (AGU) Ocean
Sciences Meeting must be completed by 11:59 pm EDT (3:59 am +1 GMT/UTC)
on Thursday, 15 October 2009. Late submissions will not be accepted.

The submission process must be completed online at:
http://agu-os10.abstractcentral.com/. To submit an abstract, you must
enter the first author's current AGU member ID and password. You will
also need a credit card for the submission fee ($30 for student
submissions, $60 for all others).

  1. Briefing - Transitional Technologies:
    The Road to the New Energy Economy
    15 October 2009
    Washington, D.C.

The National Science Foundation (NSF), DISCOVER Magazine, the
Environmental and Energy Study Institute (EESI), and the American
Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), announce a briefing entitled
"Transitional Technologies: The Road to the New Energy Economy." The
briefing will be held Thursday, 15 October 2009 from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.
EDT in room B338 of the Rayburn House Office Building in Washington,
D.C.

The briefing is the last in a four-part series that focuses on the
science and technology required to achieve the nation's energy goals.

Speakers for this event include James McCalley, Professor of Electrical
and Computer Engineering at Iowa State University, and Massoud Amin,
Director of the Center for the Development of Technological Leadership
at the University of Minnesota.

  1. 3rd European Conference on Permafrost
    13-17 June 2010
    Longyearbyen, Svalbard, Norway

The 3rd European Conference on Permafrost (EUCOP III) will be convened
13-17 June 2010 in Longyearbyen, Svalbard, Norway at The University
Centre in Svalbard (UNIS).

The conference will focus on both arctic and alpine permafrost research,
and recent achievements like the permafrost related International Polar
Year (IPY) campaigns. Issues related to CO2-storage in permafrost areas
will also be covered. A preliminary list of the planned topics is
available at: http://www.eucop2010.no/Plannedsessions.htm. The
conference will also host the official International Permafrost
Association (IPA) Executive Committee and Council meetings.

Submissions are invited to all of the planned conference topics.
Abstracts must be no more than 600 words, and received by 15 February
2010. Further details on submission, including the necessary form, are
