  1. The University of Iceland seeks PhD Student
    Reykjavik, Iceland

The University of Iceland seeks a PhD Student in the field of
environmental engineering. The position is based in Reykjavik, Iceland.

The successful candidate will work on a research project characterizing
the physical mechanisms within one of Iceland's largest and deepest
lakes, Lake Lagarfljot. This work will help to accurately assess the
impacts of global warming and human activities (such as damming) on
aquatic environments. The project builds a fundamental knowledge base of
lakes' physical responses to weather conditions, which can be used to
predict the fate and transport of materials and the chemical composition
of water.

The ideal candidate would hold Master's of Science in engineering,
physics, oceanography, or a related field. A strong background in
mathematics, probability and statistics, numerical methods, and modeling
is highly desirable. Knowledge of hydrodynamics, lake processes, and
programming skills as well as experience with field and/or laboratory
work is advantageous but not required.

A completed application packet will include:
- A one or two page statement of interest;
- A detailed curriculum vitae;
- Certified transcripts of university degrees; and
- Names and contact information of two references.

Non-native English speakers will also need to submit evidence of mastery
of English (e.g., International English Language Testing System scores).
