  1. Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland seeks Postdoctoral
    Candidate
    Copenhagen, Denmark

The Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland (GEUS) seeks a
postdoctoral candidate to work on outlet glacier modeling of the
Greenland ice sheet. The position is expected to last for one and a half
years, and begins 1 November 2009.

Uncertainties in predicting future sea level are associated with
dynamical changes in the Antarctic and Greenland ice sheets. A key
aspect of these uncertainties is the role of outlet glaciers and their
ice shelves: how they might respond to climate change, and the effect
this could have on the ice sheets. The successful candidate will focus
on several outlet glaciers of the Greenland ice sheet, and will work
with models in order to make projections of rapid changes in ice sheets,
investigate the mechanisms that control their recent rapid thinning and
acceleration, and predict their future behavior in response to climate
warming.

The applicant must possess considerable research skills in ice-dynamic
modeling at the highest international level. It is expected that the
applicant will have a well-developed international network within the
field of ice-dynamic modeling. The applicant should have a strong
publication record and add expertise to the glaciology group at GEUS.

Applications should be marked 'GEUS j.no. 031-01223' and include:

- A statement of research interests;
- A curriculum vitae;
- A list of publications, preferably sorted into categories
(peer-reviewed, non-reviewed, popular, maps, abstracts,
miscellaneous);
- Copies of publications particularly relevant for the position
(maximum 5); and
- Names and addresses of at least three references.

Applications should be sent to: GEUSjob [at] geus.dk.

Application deadline: Monday, 19 October 2009 at 12:00 a.m. Danish time.

  1. Prince William Sound Science Center seeks Postdoctoral Candidate
    Cordova, Alaska

The Prince William Sound Science Center seeks a postdoctoral candidate
in Pelagic Fish Ecology or Fisheries Acoustics to fill a research
position focused on pelagic fish assessment and ecology. The position is
in support of a large survey effort focused on herring populations in
Prince William Sound (PWS).

The successful applicant will be expected to:

- Work independently and in collaboration with other researchers;
- Publish research findings in peer-reviewed scientific journals; and
- Write proposals, reports, and other publications.

Applicants must have fisheries research experience; preferably a PhD.
Fisheries acoustics experience is desirable but not essential, as is
knowledge of Pacific herring or other forage fish. The position will
involve considerable fieldwork within PWS, including the collection of
fish and plankton samples, hydrographic data, and logistics support.

The ideal applicant will be organized, self motivated, independent,
pro-active, have a proven ability to produce tangible results from
significant or difficult tasks, have excellent communication skills, and
complement the research interests of existing personnel. Travel may be
required. This position is funded for three years. The starting date of
the position is flexible but could be as soon as early November 2009.

Applicants must have U.S. or Canadian citizenship, or U.S. Permanent
Residence status.

Application packages must include:

- A curriculum vitae;
- A statement of research interests, how you think you would fit
into the organization, and your professional experiences; and
- The names and contact information of three references.

Applications should be sent electronically to Nancy Bird at:
nbird [at] pwssc.org or mailed in hardcopy to:
