Organizers of Session ED10, "Authentic Research Experiences for Teacher
and Student Benefits," announce a call for abstracts. The session will
be convened at the American Geophysical Union (AGU) Ocean Sciences
Meeting, 22-26 February 2010, in Portland, Oregon.

Teacher research experiences, such as the National Science Foundation
(NSF) funded PolarTREC (Teachers and Researchers Experimenting and
Collaborating) and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration
(NOAA) funded Teacher at Sea programs, immerse K-12 educators in
authentic hands-on research experiences to improve interdisciplinary
science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education.
Participating teachers work with scientists before, during, and after
the field research as an integral part of the science team. While in the
field, teachers act as the eyes and ears of their students and
communities, sharing their experiences through online multimedia
journals, photographs, podcasts, and inquiry-based lessons about their
experience.

This session will explore how teachers' field research experiences,
particularly in marine studies, improve classroom instruction, student
engagement, and awareness of environmental issues while providing an
authentic learning experience and creating awareness of interconnected
global issues. Contributions are invited from researchers and educators
that would like to share their research experience.

The abstract submission deadline for this and all other sessions is
Thursday, 15 October 2009, at 11:59 pm Eastern Daylight Time. To submit
an abstract, you must enter the first author's current AGU member ID and
password at: http://agu-os10.abstractcentral.com/.
