Organizers of Session C27, "Observatories, Tools, and Instruments in
Polar Regions," announce a call for abstracts. The session will be
convened at the American Geophysical Union (AGU) Fall Meeting, 14-18
December 2009, in San Francisco, California.

Gathering scientific data in polar regions is especially demanding due
to the extreme nature and remoteness of these regions. This session
focuses on the specific needs and abilities of all kinds of
observatories, tools, instruments, and sensors used in polar
environments, both for the terrestrial and marine operational fields,
including submarine and ice-sheet installations and set-ups. A focus is
set on topics related to environmental monitoring and forecasting in its
broader sense. This could include new concepts and technical designs for
seafloor and land-based observatories to monitor chemical, physical,
biological, or geophysical parameters in the subseafloor, ocean,
atmosphere, or ice-sheet realm. Contributions are also invited that
cover the design, calibration, experimental setup, handling, or
operation of tools and instruments, including assessments of long term
stability, reliability of collected data, or interchangeability.
Organizers encourage presentations to highlight capabilities of
integrating instruments into larger infrastructures or research
frameworks, and to address interdisciplinary adaptations and
collaborations.

The abstract submission deadline for this and all other sessions is
Thursday, 3 September 2009, at 11:59 pm Eastern Daylight Time. To submit
an abstract, you must enter the first author's current AGU member ID and
password at: http://agu-fm09.abstractcentral.com/.
