The University of Alaska Press announces a new publication: Recent
Mammals of Alaska. From diminutive shrews to the majestic blue whale,
there are 116 species of mammals in Alaska, which until now have never
been fully documented.

Through extensive fieldwork and research, the authors have included
distribution and taxonomic information, status, habitat, and fossil
history. Appendices include quick reference listings of mammal
distribution by region, specimen locations, conservation status,
introductions and translocations, and the incidence of Pleistocene
mammals. The guide is generously illustrated and includes maps that
point to the distribution of species.
