Organizers of Session EP17, "Arctic Coasts at Risk," announce a call for
abstracts. The session will be convened at the American Geophysical
Union (AGU) Fall Meeting, 14-18 December 2009, in San Francisco,
California.

Rapid climate change and declines in arctic sea ice are now well
documented, with record September sea ice minima occurring nearly every
year between 2001 and 2008. At the same time, arctic coastal communities
are frequently in the news reporting threats to infrastructure from
erosion and storm-surge flooding. Recent studies suggest that erosion
has accelerated over the last half-century in some locations, whereas
others do not detect a change in rates. While there appears to be a
correlation between sea ice decline, warming, and coastal change, we
still lack understanding of the processes that control coastal evolution
in the arctic region.

Session organizers seek studies of arctic coastal change and controlling
processes ranging from field-based observational studies, remote-sensing
studies to process modeling, and applied predictive efforts.

The abstract submission deadline for this and all other sessions is
Thursday, 3 September 2009, at 11:59 pm Eastern Daylight Time. To submit
an abstract, you must enter the first author's current AGU member ID and
password at: http://agu-fm09.abstractcentral.com/.
