Early career scholars are invited to participate in the Dissertations
Initiative for the Advancement of Climate Change Research (DISCCRS,
pronounced discourse), an interdisciplinary climate change research
symposium. The symposium will be held 13-20 March 2010 in Mesa, Arizona.
It is funded by the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) through
grants to the University of Oregon and Whitman College.

DISCCRS connects natural and social scientists engaged in research
related to climate change, impacts, and solutions. The goal is to
broaden perspectives and establish a collegial peer network to address
climate challenges at the interface of science and society. Participants
will present and discuss their research, hone interdisciplinary
communication and team skills, and discuss emerging research.
Established researchers will serve as mentors.

Participation will be limited to thirty-four early career scholars.
Scholars will be identified by an interdisciplinary committee of
research scientists based on review of submitted applications. Airfare
and on-site expenses will be defrayed.

To be eligible, participants must have completed their PhD requirements
between 1 April 2007 and 31 July 2009. Applications are encouraged from
the natural and social sciences, economics, mathematics, engineering, or
any other field so long as the research focus relates to climate change
issues. Selection will favor those applicants who plan to engage in
interdisciplinary research careers in any subject within, or relevant
to, climate change. While the emphasis is on the U.S. research system,
applicants from all countries will be considered.

Necessary application materials include the applicant's dissertation
registration information and abstract, a two-page resume, essays, and
letters of recommendation. For complete instructions, or to submit an
application, please go to: http://www.disccrs.org/symphelp.html.

The application deadline is Monday, 31 August 2009.
