Applications are invited for the Wood Group Chair in Arctic and Cold
Region Engineering within the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science
at Memorial University. This is a tenure-track faculty position at the
Associate Professor level, commencing 1 September 2009, or as soon as
possible thereafter. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and
experience.

Applicants must hold a PhD in engineering and will have relevant
experience in harsh environment or arctic engineering. The successful
candidate must have an undergraduate degree in engineering and will be
expected to register as a Professional Engineer in Newfoundland and
Labrador.

The Wood Group Chair in Arctic and Cold Region Engineering will become
an integral part of an established group of researchers and educators in
the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science, whose programs in Civil,
Computer, Electrical, Mechanical and Ocean and Naval Architectural
Engineering are accredited by the Canadian Engineering Accreditation
Board.

The Chair will establish, promote and maintain a strong emphasis on
engineering for the harsh ocean and arctic environments offshore. The
Chair will be expected to focus his/her teaching and research program on
cold regions, harsh environments, and arctic issues. Examples of such
research programs could include (but are not limited to): cold regions
pipelines, fixed structures in ice, floating structures in ice, and
subsea developments in remote locations.

The Chair will have a teaching load that is half the norm in the Faculty
of Engineering and Applied Science and will be expected to teach at the
undergraduate and graduate levels. The Chair will be expected to develop
a funded research program and establish links with other researchers at
and beyond Memorial, as well as with industry. Graduate students are
expected to be an integral part of the Chair's research program
activities. The Chair will have an established reputation with industry
and be expected to maintain close contacts.
