The University of Wisconsin Space Science and Engineering Center seeks
experienced mechanical engineers to fill three positions in its Ice
Coring and Drilling Services (ICDS) group.

Successful candidates will assist in the development of new ice drills
as well as in the operation and maintenance of new and existing ice
drills. ICDS provides the design, fabrication, operation, and
maintenance of ice drills for the U.S. science community under a
cooperative agreement with the NSF Office of Polar Programs.

Required Experience/Demonstrated Abilities:
- Three (3) years experience in mechanical system design, analysis, and
deployment;
- Computer Aided Design - skill in using or the ability to quickly
learn the use of SolidWorks;
- Skill in using Microsoft Office products - Word, Excel, and PowerPoint;
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams;
- Communication skills - verbal and written with the ability to make
presentations to groups with various levels of expertise in the subject;
- Self-management; and
- Ability and willingness to work in the field in cold and high
altitude regions throughout the world.

Additional Experience in the following would be preferred:
- Experience in the design and operation of mechanical and
electromechanical systems in polar environments;
- Strong working knowledge and experience with control systems,
electromechanical devices, and electronics, knowledge of LabView
software is a plus;
- Experience in supporting systems in the field, i.e., commissioning
mechanical and electromechanical systems, troubleshooting equipment,
and adjusting/repairing systems; and
- Knowledge and experience in fabrication and shop practices.
