During the last three years, the Secretariat of the International Arctic
Science Committee (IASC) was hosted by the Swedish Polar Research
Secretariat in Stockholm (Sweden) with the support of the Swedish
Research Council. Starting in 2009, the Secretariat moved to Potsdam
(Germany). For a five year period, the new IASC Secretariat will be
hosted by the Alfred Wegener Institute (AWI) for Polar and Marine
Research. The new contact information is below.

The AWI is Germany's leading institute for polar and marine research.
The AWI conducts research in the Arctic, the Antarctic, and at temperate
latitudes. It coordinates polar research in Germany and provides both
the necessary equipment and the essential logistic back-up for polar
expeditions.

The AWI Research Unit Potsdam started operating in 1992. Its main fields
of research are terrestrial geoscience in the periglacial regions (at
the margins of inland ice sheets and in permafrost areas), as well as
experimental investigations and modeling of atmospheric processes in the
polar regions. These studies complement the predominantly marine program
of the AWI in Bremerhaven. The AWI Potsdam is part of the historic
science campus Albert Einstein on the Telegrafenberg, southeast of
Potsdam city center.
