After Roald Amundsen successfully navigated the Northwest Passage in
1903-06, there remained two goals in polar exploration: to be the first
man to reach the North Pole and the first to reach the South Pole.

The North Pole was the first of those goals to be attained: Commander
Robert E. Peary and his U.S. North Polar Expedition attained the goal in
1909. Upon returning to the States from the Arctic, Peary began a series
of lectures to announce his accomplishment and promote his forthcoming
book. He advertized his Boston appearance with this striking poster.

The poster is available in limited quantities as a full-size
reproduction print. For further information, and to view the print,
