The Climate Research Centre in Nuuk, Greenland, invites applications for
the position of Head of Centre. The application deadline for this
position is Sunday, 1 February 2009.

The Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation has
provisionally allocated for the establishment of a centre for climate
research in Nuuk, Greenland. The centre will conduct research into the
projected influence of climate change on arctic marine, limnic, and
terrestrial environments, and on Greenlandic society, including studies
to address adaptation strategies. The centre will be established at the
Greenland Nature Institute.

The centre will be managed by a Head of Centre/Professor with a
scientific background, who will be appointed to the Greenland Institute
of Natural Resources, a professor/senior researcher with a background in
social science to be appointed to Ilisimatusarfik/University of
Greenland, and a number of research positions run by Danish,
Greenlandic, or international research institutions. The necessary
technical and administrative staff will be available to the centre.

The Head of Centre will be responsible for management of the centre,
with the following duties:
- Creation of a research programme for the projected 5-year life of
the centre;
- Conducting research within the centre's dedicated field, including
the publication and dissemination of its research findings;
- Engaging in knowledge exchange with the Greenlandic and Danish
research communities and participating in public debate; and
- Directing research, including guidance and supervision of researchers
on projects connected to the centre.

In selection of the successful candidate, the main emphasis will be
placed on the following:
- Documented high degree of original scientific output at an
international level;
- Documented aptitude for research leadership and performance of
managerial functions; and
- Aptitude for and keen commitment to disseminating the issues
addressed by and the findings of the centre's research.

The appointment will be for a fixed term of five years on an individual
contract based on the collective agreement between the Danish Ministry
of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations
(AC). In addition, this fixed-term appointment attracts a guaranteed
multiannual bonus, and a negotiable supplement commensurate with
qualifications. Arrangements can be made for suitable accommodation in
Nuuk, for which payment shall be made according to the current rules. On
commencement and termination of contract, relocation and travel expenses
will be awarded on the basis of the collective agreement between the
Greenland Home Rule Government and the organization authorized to
negotiate such allowances. In each year except the years of commencement
and termination of contract, the employer will cover travel expenses for
a single annual holiday for the Head of Centre and accompanying family
members.

respect of dissemination; and
- Appendix 5: Documentation of the applicant's managerial/leadership
qualifications.
