The Cold Climate Housing Research Center (CCHRC) in Fairbanks, Alaska,
seeks applicants for the position of Product Testing Laboratory
Engineer. This position will assist in the design, development, and
implementation of product testing projects by organizing, conducting,
and reporting laboratory and in situ tests of building products.

Scope of Duties:
- Report regularly to the CCHRC Product Testing Director on project
progress;
- Collaborate with CCHRC staff, industry advisors, and contractors in
carrying out product testing functions;
- Assist in the selection and development of product testing protocols;
- Install, operate and maintain testing equipment and instrumentation
necessary to carry out product testing or development projects;
- Design and build custom product testing equipment and/or systems as
necessary;
- Analyze data from testing projects and report findings;
- Communicate with the professional community and the public about
products under evaluation and gather input to identify which products
merit testing; and
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- A degree in mechanical or civil engineering from an accredited
engineering program;
- Project management skills;
- General knowledge of the homebuilding industry, with good working
knowledge of HVAC, insulation, fenestration, and envelope sealing
systems;
- Creativity and ingenuity applicable to engineering problems;
- Experience in instrumentation and conducting empirical tests;
- Mechanical and fabrication experience, or related skills pertinent to
designing, building and operating testing systems;
- Experience with automated data collection and use of models for data
analysis;
- Demonstrated ability to write and review project proposals and formal
reports;
- Ability to work with a high degree of autonomy; and
- Good communication and interpersonal skills to work with CCHRC staff,
board members, homebuilders, and a wide range of industry and
government officials.
