The WMO/GEO/WCRP IPY Legacy Workshop, "Sustaining Project
Contributions to WMO Global Cryosphere Watch and the Group on Earth
Observations System of Systems," originally scheduled from 3-5 December
2008, in Geneva Switzerland has been postponed. The new dates for the
workshop will most likely be during the second quarter of 2009. The website
remains http://clic.npolar.no/gcw/gcw.php; updated information will be posted
as soon as it becomes available.

Background:
A recent meeting of workshop organizer representatives discussed
the main factors that should shape the workshop agenda and determine its
efficiency. Discussions included the development of the WMO Global
Cryosphere Watch (GCW) concept, ongoing activities of the relevant IPY
projects, discussions on the IPY legacy, and setup of observing systems
that have a close bearing on the GCW. For example, an ad-hoc working
group on the GCW is currently being established. Fast and significant
strides are being made to develop the GCW concept.

In order to maximize the benefit from the participation of the IPY
projects and optimize contribution to a possible GCW, the workshop will
be postponed to the spring of 2009 (after the end of the IPY 2007-2008
field phase). Exact dates will be published as soon as they become available.
