The Faculty of Arts and the Labrador Institute of Memorial University
invite applications for a Postdoctoral Fellowship in aboriginal studies,
Labrador history, linguistics, anthropology, archaeology or other field
relevant to Labrador and aboriginal communities. Postdoctoral
Fellowships provide stipendiary support to recent PhD graduates who are
undertaking original research, publishing research findings, developing
and expanding personal research networks, broadening teaching
experience, and preparing to become competitive in national research
grant competitions. The successful candidate will be required to engage
in postdoctoral research and teach one course relevant to both the needs
of the Labrador Institute and the applicant's interests.

To be eligible, applicants must be a citizen or permanent resident of
Canada and have earned a doctorate from a recognized university within
the last five years. A career interrupted or delayed for the purpose of
child rearing will be taken into consideration with a letter of
explanation from the applicant. S/He must not hold a tenure or
tenure-track faculty position and must have finalized a program of
research with the Labrador Institute in consultation with academic units
in the Faculty of Arts at Memorial University.

The Faculty Research Committee evaluates applications solely on academic
merit. This is measured by originality, potential significance, and feasibility
of the proposed program of work, relevance of proposed research to
Labrador fellowships, scholarships, or other awards previously obtained,
previous research experience and/or publications, and comments from the
PhD supervisor.

Fellows will be paid approximately $38,000 (Canadian) per year, plus an
accountable research allowance of up to $5,000, and a travel allowance of
$5,000 per award. The fellowship is non-renewable and is for a one-year
period. The award must begin on 1 September 2009.
