The Norwegian College of Fishery Science in the Department of Aquatic
BioSciences, at the University of Tromso, seeks applicants for a
research position in marine plankton modelling. The position is
contingent upon the European Union's approval of the FP7 project "Arctic
Tipping Points."

A doctoral degree in marine biology is a prerequisite for appointment to
the position. The applicant must be able to document scientific
knowledge in marine plankton ecology, preferentially in modelling and
the Arctic.

The successful applicant must be willing to engage himself/herself in
the ongoing development of his/her discipline and the university as a
whole. Working time will be set aside for research, research-related
activities, and research administration.

Applications must be accompanied by a proposal for the anticipated work
(based on the "Arctic Tipping Points" project) and must include a work
schedule. In addition, applicants must include a proposed plan
indicating how the project will be implemented. Appointments are made on
the understanding that the appointee shall complete his/her project
within the contract term. The plan shall also state who is responsible
for providing academic supervision. The person responsible for providing
academic supervision and the employee both have a duty to report to the
employer in case of inadequate implementation of the plan. To obtain the
"Arctic Tipping Points" project description, please contact Dr.
Elisabeth Halvorsen (elisabeth.halvorsen [at] nfh.uit.no).

An expert committee, whose emphasis will be placed on assessment of the
submitted scientific works and the proposal for the qualifying work,
will assess the applications. The committee will also evaluate
candidates based on experience as indicated from
popularization/publication, administration, work related to disciplinary
development and experience from fieldwork.

To apply, please complete the online application, which is available at:
http://www.jobbnorge.no. In addition, the application, including CV,
certified copies of diplomas and references, and the list of scientific
works are to be sent in five copies directly to:
Department of Aquatic BioSciences
Norwegian College of Fishery Science, No-9037

The following reference number must be quoted in your application: Ref.
08-3852. All documentation that is to be evaluated must be certified and
translated into English or a Scandinavian language, and must be received
by Monday, 20 October 2008.
