Graduate student opportunities (2 PhD and 1 MS) are available to
participate in a multidisciplinary investigation of the inorganic,
organic, and isotopic (C, H, O, N, Ca, and Sr) geochemistry of North
Slope Alaskan rivers and soils with the aim of developing new proxies
for tracking arctic climate change, permafrost stability, and carbon
export at the watershed scale. This project, funded by the National
Science Foundation, will involve two sampling campaigns based out of
Toolik Field Station (2009 and 2010 summers), general and clean room
chemistry, numerical modeling, and instrumental analyses by IC, ICP-OES,
IRMS, and TIMS. A BA and/or MS degree in earth science, geology,
chemistry, or a related field is required.
