The Parks Canada Agency invites applications for a postdoctoral
researcher as a NSERC Visiting Fellow in Government Laboratories for the
development of innovative, integrative, watershed-based, multi-ecosystem
sampling designs for long-term monitoring of park ecological integrity.
The position is located at the Parks Canada Western and Northern Service
Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The project is developed in collaboration
with Memorial University, the Canadian Rivers Institute (University of
New Brunswick), and ArcticNet. It aims at linking elements of two
International Polar Year projects: Climate Change Impacts on Canadian
Arctic Tundra (CiCAT) and Arctic Freshwater Systems (Arctic BIONet) as
well as one ArcticNet project: Nunatsiavut Nuluak - Understanding and
Responding to the Effects of Climate Change and Modernization in a
Northern Environment.

The successful applicant will research and develop innovative,
watershed-based, multiple-scale, multiple-ecosystem sampling designs for
1 to 3 northern National Parks of Canada. The sampling designs, adapted
to the northern context of large, difficult-to-access parks, will
facilitate development and incremental and modular implementation of
sustainable long-term monitoring of park ecological integrity. The
sampling designs to monitor tundra and freshwater ecosystems and their
linkages will be established through opportunities to study park
landscape, visit partners' field sites and discuss northern logistics
with park managers.

The successful applicant will:
- Meet the requirements set for NSERC Visiting Scientists in
Government Laboratories (see
http://www.nserc.gc.ca/sf_e.asp?nav=sfnav&lbi=3d);
- Have a PhD in one of the following fields: community or
ecosystem ecology, hydrology, landscape ecology, geography, sampling
design, or related fields;
- Have a strong knowledge and experience in sampling design at
the landscape scale;
- Have a good understanding of northern tundra and/or freshwater
ecosystems, and/ or their associated processes and stressors, and/or
northern landscape processes;
- Be a highly motivated and cooperative team player;
- Possess excellent interpersonal communication and writing skills;
- Possess the following important assets:
- Experience in northern field logistics and/or in working is
northern landscapes,
- Understanding of climate change factors and impacts.

To apply, please send a CV, the names and contact information for two
