The Department of Environment in Igloolik, Nunavut seeks a Wildlife
Management Director. This position oversees the implementation of the
Department's programs for wildlife and conservation. The Wildlife
Management Director reports to the Assistant Deputy Minister.
The Director is accountable for the effective and efficient operation of
the departments Wildlife Management Division. By supervision and
leadership, the director will oversee the division's activities, which
include wildlife research, species and population management planning,
legislation and regulations development, enforcement and compliance,
enforcement training, licensing and permitting, and conservation
education.
The successful candidate will have a degree in biological sciences with
at least ten (10) years of relevant experience in wildlife management,
including mid to senior management experience. The applicant must be an
effective communicator with strong personal, social and political
skills, to be able to work constructively with the public, other
government agencies, co-management groups, Inuit organizations and those
engaged in wildlife businesses. The incumbent must demonstrate a high
degree of leadership and an ability to be fully accountable for his/her
decisions. All candidates must be able to demonstrate effective
supervisory and time management skills, in order to efficiently manage a
diverse and multidisciplinary workload on a priority basis.
Priority for this position will be given to Nunavut Land Claims
