The Department of Environment in Igloolik, Nunavut, seeks a Wildlife
Research Manager. This position is located in Igloolik and reports to
the Director of Wildlife Management. The position supervises a research
program carried out by a team of 17 biologists and technicians.

The Wildlife Research Manager oversees wildlife research and management
programs to address Government of Nunavut (GN) responsibilities relating
to conservation and sustainable use of wildlife under the Wildlife Act
and the Nunavut Lands Claims Agreement. The Manager ensures that
Nunavut's positions and priorities are considered in wildlife research,
management, and conservation initiatives at the territorial, national
and/or international level. The incumbent's primary responsibility is to
supervise the staff and administer the activities of the Wildlife
Research section of the Department of Environment, and to provide
biological reviews and advice to other sections, agencies and the
public.

Candidates must hold a PhD or Master's degree and have four (4) years of
experience managing a wildlife research program, with at least five (5)
years supervisory experience. To qualify for the position without a PhD
or Master's degree, candidates must hold a Bachelor of Science Degree
and have at least ten (10) years of experience managing Wildlife
Research programs with five (5) years of supervisory experience. Past
field research experience is necessary. Strong analytical and writing
skills for development of reports, briefing notes, and presentations are
required. Critical and analytical skills relevant to scientific research
techniques should be complemented by an awareness and sensitivity to the
requirements for Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit in Departmental initiatives.
Equivalencies that consist of a combination of education, knowledge,
skills, and abilities equal in worth to the formal education and
experience requirements will be considered.
