The PhD Trainee School in Arctic Marine Geology and Geophysics, at the
University of Tromso, announces a workshop, "Approaching Arctic Frontier
Areas for Petroleum Exploration," to be held 12-13 November 2008 in
Tromso, Norway. The main focus of the workshop is to provide a platform
for exchange of knowledge between academic, industrial, and political
interests in the Arctic.
During the two-day workshop, organizers hope to provide insight into the
history, challenges, and status-quo of Arctic Frontier Exploration.
Researchers from academia, industry, and other institutions will present
selected talks on petroleum exploration and environmental challenges in
the Arctic. The problems to be addressed during the workshop include:
1. Current exploring strategies
2. Approaching new frontier areas
3. The vulnerability of arctic ecosystems
4. Environmental challenges
There are several registration deadlines:
Deadline for Master's student registration: 1 September 2008
Registration deadline for all other participants: 1 October 2008
Deadline for abstract submission (for poster presentations only):
1 October 2008
