The International Arctic Science Committee (IASC) and the Scientific
Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR) are jointly organizing the IPY
mid-term conference, "Polar Research - Arctic and Antarctic Perspectives
in the International Polar Year." The opening ceremony and keynote
lectures will be presented online via live webcast at:
http://www.arcticportal.org.
The conference is scheduled for 8-11 July 2008, in St. Petersburg,
Russia. The IPY Joint Committee has endorsed this event as the first in
a series of international interdisciplinary IPY conferences. It is
cosponsored by the International Council for Science (ICSU) and the
World Meteorological Organization (WMO). Sessions will take place in the
Pribaltiskaya Hotel and at the Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute
(AARI).
The opening ceremony and the keynote lectures will be available via live
webcast on Tuesday, 8 July 2008, at 8:30 a.m. local time (Monday, 7 July
2008 - 8:30 p.m. ADT; 9:30 p.m. PDT, 10:30 p.m. MDT, 11:30 p.m. CDT and
