The University of Alaska Fairbanks invites applications for a research
technician 2 position at the Institute of Arctic Biology. The successful
candidate will be responsible for the collection and maintenance of
environmental data associated with the Alaska Peatland Experiment (APEX;
see http://apex.msu.edu/), located near the Bonanza Creek Experimental
Forest, outside of Fairbanks, Alaska.

Duties include:
1) The operation and maintenance of data acquisition systems (primarily
data loggers) at monitoring sites associated with the Bonanza Creek
Experimental Forest near Fairbanks, Alaska
2) Operation and maintenance of a water table manipulation system
3) Assistance in conducting hydrological and biogeochemical research,
including data acquisition and analysis.

To be considered for the position, candidates must possess experience
working outside in various weather conditions (including winter), and
must have skills in data collection, accurate record keeping, and
spreadsheet use. Preferred abilities include the operation, programming,
and repair of environmental data acquisition systems. At least one year
of college coursework or an equivalent combination of training and
experience is required of applicants for this position. A Bachelor's of
Art or Science in engineering or science, with a major in hydrological
emphasis and previous experience is preferred. Salary starts at $16.14
per hour with a higher wage possible depending on experience.
