The Alaska Office of the Arctic Studies Center (ASC) is accepting
applications for anthropology internship positions. The positions are
part of the Sharing Knowledge Project
(http://www.mnh.si.edu/arctic/html/alaska_collections.html).
There are four positions available:
1. Research Assistant: The applicant hired for this position will
research and analyze archival photographs and illustrations of Alaska
and Eastern Siberia Native Peoples. (Applications will be accepted for
the fall, only).
2. Research Assistant: The applicant hired for this position will
research and analyze archival film resources of Alaska and Eastern
Siberia Native Peoples. (Applications will be accepted for the fall,
only).
3. Research Assistant: This position has several duties including,
research of Inupiaq and St. Lawrence Island Yupik material culture,
writing object-based historical summaries, and writing edited summaries
of museum consultations with Elders and scholars.
4. Research Assistant: The applicant hired for this position will
research Eastern Siberian material culture, write and edit English
transcripts of museum consultations with Elders and scholars, and will
write object-based historical summaries.
These positions are available as the following internship types:
1. As an independent study for university credit (to be arranged with
your home institution)
2. As a formal internship with and without paid stipend by
competitive application through the Smithsonian Institution
3. As a paid or volunteer position - limited funding is available
through the ASC for some positions.
