The Parks Canada Agency invites applications for a two-year position as
a postdoctoral researcher in the Canadian Government Laboratories with
the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC).
The position is located at the Parks Canada Western and Northern Service
Center in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The aim of the position is to link
elements of two International Polar Year (IPY) projects: Climate Change
Impacts on Canadian Arctic Tundra (CiCAT) and Arctic Freshwater Systems
(Arctic BIONet).

The successful applicant will research and develop innovative,
watershed-based, multiple-scale, multiple-ecosystem sampling designs for
1 to 3 northern National Parks of Canada. The Sampling designs, adapted
to the northern context of large, difficult-to-access parks, will
facilitate development and incremental and modular implementation of
sustainable long-term monitoring of park ecological integrity. The
sampling designs to monitor tundra and freshwater ecosystems and their
linkages will be established through opportunities to study park
landscapes, visit partners' field sites, and discuss northern logistics
with park managers.

The successful applicant will:
- Meet the requirements set for NSERC Visiting Scientists in Government
Laboratories
- Have a PhD in community or ecosystem ecology, hydrology, landscape
ecology, sampling design, or related fields
- Have a strong knowledge and experience in sampling design at landscape
scale
- Have a good understanding of northern tundra, freshwater ecosystems
and their associated processes and stressors, or northern landscape
processes
- Be highly motivated and a cooperative team player
- Possess excellent interpersonal communication and writing skills
- Have experience in northern field logistics and / or in working in
northern landscapes
- Possess an understanding of climate change factors and impacts

To apply, please send a CV, the names and contact information of two
