Papers are invited for "Marine Geology of Fjords" (session OSP-05) being
convened at the 33rd International Geological Congress on 5-14 August
2008, in Oslo, Norway.

Session description:
Fjords occur in a variety of glaciated and non-glaciated settings where
they act as natural sediment traps. They provide excellent opportunities
to study oceanographic and sedimentary processes (including
geo-hazards), as well as climate change and pollution with seasonal to
millennial resolution. The understanding of recent sedimentation
processes in oxygen-deficient fjords might even be applied for the
interpretation of black shale and petroleum source rocks deposited
through geologic time.

This symposium will focus on fjords as miniature ocean settings by
presenting results from interdisciplinary geo-scientific research. Its
purpose is to improve the understanding of physical and geochemical
processes across the land-sea transition, and to provide information
about environmental change with high temporal resolution, both from the
present and from the past.
