The 38th Annual International Arctic Workshop will be held 5-7 March
2008, at the Institute of Arctic and Alpine Research (INSTAAR),
University of Colorado at Boulder. The deadline for registration and
abstracts is Wednesday, 13 February 2008.

The meeting is open to all interested in the Arctic and will consist of
a series of talks and poster sessions covering all aspects of
high-latitude environments, past and present. Previous Arctic Workshops
have included presentations on arctic and Antarctic climate, archeology,
sociology, environmental geochemistry, geomorphology, hydrology,
glaciology, soils, ecology, oceanography, Quaternary history, and more.
The keynote presentation, "IPY: It's not just a year, it's a
responsibility," will be given by James White, University of Colorado at
Boulder. Partial support for students, subsidized by the U.S. National
Science Foundation, is still available.

A special session on the intersection of science, public communication,
and politics in the global warming debate may be held, depending on
interest and number of submissions. Physical scientists, social
scientists, media, and other interested individuals are invited to
submit abstracts.

A one-day meeting of the PAGES Working Group "Arctic Climate during the
Last Two Millennia" will follow the Arctic Workshop on Saturday, March
8. All paleoclimate scientists working in the Arctic with
high-resolution data and/or modeling are invited to contribute to this
first working group meeting. Its main focus is to begin reconstructing
environments of the last 2,000 years for a new PAGES focus on "Regional
climates and modes of variability." This planning meeting will not
include science talks, so participants are strongly encouraged to submit
contributions to the Arctic Workshop. For more information, please go
