The Scottish Association for Marine Science (SAMS) announces a vacancy
for a sea ice physicist within its Physics, Sea Ice and Technology
Department. SAMS is actively involved in several UK and EU IPY projects
to evaluate and understand the consequences of recently observed rapid
environmental change in the Arctic Ocean. SAMS seeks an experienced sea
ice physicist or polar oceanographer to work in the broad area of
ice-ocean-atmosphere interaction and contribute to the ongoing
development of methods for extracting sea ice properties from satellite
remote sensing data.

The successful candidate should have a PhD or equivalent research
experience in sea ice or polar oceanography. Additional experience of
Earth observation monitoring of sea ice would be a valuable asset. This
is a full time, permanent research position with the opportunity for
teaching and supervision of PhD students. Candidates with a strong
background in physics, mathematics, and good programming skills are
strongly encouraged to apply.
