Alaska EPSCoR (Experimental Program to Stimulate Competitive Research)
is pleased to announce its competition for graduate student research
awards for the 2008-2009 academic year, contingent on Alaska EPSCoR
receiving continued project funding. These one- and two-year fellowships
are approximately $21,000 USD per year and include a tuition award and
health insurance. Both PhD and Masters students are considered. Incoming
and current graduate students at University of Alaska Anchorage,
University of Alaska Fairbanks, and University of Alaska Southeast are
welcome to apply.

To be considered, graduate students must be interested or working in an
area of research supported by Alaska EPSCoR, whose project is entitled
"Resilience and Vulnerability in a Rapidly Changing North: The
Integration of Physical, Biological and Social Processes." Information
about the project is available under the heading "Research Focus Areas -
Phase III," along with a project summary under "Funding Opportunities,"
at: http://www.alaska.edu/epscor/.

Applications which clearly show interest in interdisciplinary work
around the theme of resilience and vulnerability will be given priority.
Funded graduate students will be expected to participate fully in Alaska
EPSCoR activities such as meetings and discussion groups.

Applicants should send the following information as one PDF or one MS
Word document:
- Name, complete contact information, and UA student ID number (if
available);
- Faculty sponsor's name, department, and complete contact information;
- Resume or CV;
- Copy of graduate transcript or, if a new graduate student, copy of
undergraduate transcript;
- One-page statement on why the applicant should be funded, including
area of research interest and how it fits within the EPSCoR project;
- Letter of support from faculty sponsor (an electronic, unsigned copy
is acceptable); and
- Information about any other funding the applicant will or may have for
the 2008-2009 academic year.

Applications should be sent by Friday, 1 February 2008, to:
