Papers are invited for Session SA05: "Sun-Earth Coupling Via Energetic
Particles" being convened at the American Geophysical Union (AGU) Fall
Meeting on 10-14 December 2007 in San Francisco, California.

Session Description:
For more than two decades it has been recognized that energetic particle
precipitation can lead to changes in atmospheric composition and
structure. Recent investigations indicate that such effects occur
regularly, but with varying intensity controlled by poorly understood
phenomena such as the mesospheric polar vortex and transport from the
thermosphere to the stratosphere. One of the primary challenges in this
field is to integrate knowledge from diverse areas such as solar and
magnetospheric physics, aeronomy, and atmospheric science into a
comprehensive picture of sun-Earth coupling via energetic particles.
This session invites presentations that focus on the atmospheric
response to energetic particle precipitation. The main interest is in
work that crosses the boundaries of one or more disciplines, such as
transport and exchange between the lower and upper atmospheres or the
particle precipitation patterns produced by various magnetospheric
processes. These are meant only as examples, and are not exclusive.
Session conveners are interested in presentations including measurements
and/or modeling, with a particular emphasis on understanding long-term
variability and connections to heliophysics and climate.
