The Prince William Sound Science Center (PWSSC) seeks a Development
Director who will work with the president to implement and maintain
strategies to meet the center's financial goals. Responsibilities
include the development of a multi-faceted fundraising program focused
on major donors, events, grants, and direct solicitation, as well as
building relationships and communicating with individual donors,
foundation program officers, strategic partners, and corporate donors.
The Development Director reports directly to the president (who is
active in fundraising) and works in concert with the Board Development
Committee as well as other volunteers and staff. Candidates must have a
proven track record as a strong development generalist in a non-profit
of similar size and scope. Preference is for the Development Director to
reside in Anchorage or Seattle.

Duties include:
- Develop, manage, and implement all solicitation activities with
individual donors.
- Manage fundraising efforts of board and non-board volunteers related
to individual giving.
- Write foundation and corporation proposals and reports, research new
avenues of funding, and make contact as necessary with foundation
program officers.
- Manage all aspects of major gift campaign.
- Assist staff in the production of newsletter and other mailings (with
an eye to securing donations) and produce other donor-related print and
electronic publications as needed.

Qualifications include:
- Minimum five years of development experience with at least one year
experience in individual/major gift fundraising.
- Proven success with direct gift solicitation, managing board-driven
fundraising activities, and successfully meeting targets and timelines.
- Flexible and able to excel at incorporating both structure and
innovation into fundraising efforts.
- Excellent computer skills and database management.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Organizational and management skills with attention to detail.
- Strategic thinker and planner.
- Positive, proactive, and personable team player.
- Understanding of and commitment to Alaska science-related issues.

PWSSC is a non-profit research and education entity established
immediately following the 1989 Exxon Valdez oil spill. Located in
Cordova, Alaska, the center's mission is to contribute to the ecological
understanding of Prince William Sound and the adjacent Copper River
Delta and Gulf of Alaska region, to promote long-term biodiversity and
sustainable use of renewable resources in the region, and to educate
about the critical interdependence of ecosystem science and the regional
economies of Alaska. PWSSC has an annual budget of $2.4 million
supported by research grants, foundations, corporations, and individual
donations.
