The 2007 Gussow Conference on Arctic Energy Exploration will be held
15-17 October 2007 in Banff, Alberta, Canada.
Jointly organized by the Canadian Society of Petroleum Geologists (CSPG)
and the Arctic Institute of North America (AINA), the conference will
examine how hydrocarbon exploration, development, and business should be
approached and conducted in the changing North. The conference will be
as much about finding oil and gas in the ground through sound geoscience
as about understanding the many ramifications of future exploration and
development in the North.
The Technical Program consists of 17 invited lectures and a wrap-up panel
with industry leaders. These lectures cover a wide spectrum of topics,
including the vast hydrocarbon resources of the Mackenzie Delta and the
Sverdrup Basin, as well as promising prospects such as those of the
arctic continental shelves. Methane hydrates will also be examined, as
well as the wealth of possibilities in Alaska. A number of presentations
about some of the rapidly evolving issues that will affect northern oil
and gas development will complement the geoscientific part of the
program. Attendees will hear the latest views on topics such as Canadian
and Alaskan pipeline development, the current regulatory maze,
Aboriginal issues, environmental concerns, and the Northwest Passage and
arctic sovereignty.
Poster presentations are invited for the Technical Program on topics
such as new geological models, play concepts, specific case histories or
regional correlations. Abstracts must be submitted by 31 August 2007 at:
