The Scott Polar Research Institute at University of Cambridge invites
applications for a nine-month, consultancy position of Museum Project
Manager.
Reporting to the Director through the Institute's Library, Archive and
Museum Committee, the successful candidate will be responsible for the
delivery of plans for high quality permanent displays on the science and
history of the polar regions, as well as reconstruction of the museum's
foyer, shop, and storage areas. S/he will assess the museum's
requirements for collections care and will deliver a comprehensive
report on design and construction, budgets, timelines, and
recommendations on tendering and contractor relationships. The candidate
will also work in consultation with Institute staff to minimize
disruption to museum operations. The candidate will be required to
assess and report on the museum's future needs for display and storage
of the collections, assist in selection of a design team, and provide
liaison between the design consultants and members of the Institute's
academic staff in developing interpretation. S/he will provide
comprehensive project planning, including the tendering process,
workflows and quality assurance.
A postgraduate qualification in Museum/Gallery Studies or equivalent and
previous experience on a similar project is essential. The candidate
must hold a UK work permit, will be self-employed, and appointed on a
consultancy basis. The post is available from 1 September 2007 and has a
limit of tenure of 20 June 2008.
