The Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology (IRIS) PASSCAL
Instrument Center at New Mexico Tech is seeking applicants to fill the
position of Polar Projects Field Engineer. This is a fixed term
appointment through October 2009 with the possibility of extension as
funds become available.

The primary responsibility is to support polar research in both the
field and the lab. Duties include scheduling, preparing, and shipping
equipment; field support in both the Arctic and Antarctic; development
of specialized equipment for cold, dark environments; producing and
maintaining documentation and web content related to polar support; and
user training. Equipment development will focus on primary and secondary
power systems, cold instrument enclosures, and satellite communications
for remote geophysical stations.

A B.S. in engineering or three years of relevant experience is required.
Willingness to travel to Antarctica and the Arctic is also required.
Experience with field data-collection systems, thermal modeling, DC
power systems, time series data formats, and seismological fieldwork is
desirable.
